RV Project
In 2022 I worked as a project manager and artistic general contractor for a paid gig to renovate and decorate the inside of a big RV that was going out to BurningMan. The client wanted to go with a theme they called "Cyber-Funk". Which they said would be a fusion of futuristic cyber, and 1970s aesthetic. Reference images for aesthetic and colors came from the shows Firefly and Cowboy Bebob. In total I spent 145 hours working on all this. Here are some pictures of what it looked like before I started working on it.
The location for the RV was an hour away from me. Because it wasn't close, I tried to do as much of the work as I could at home, then take it out to the RV to install it.
Most of the time when I was in the RV, there was no power or air conditioning because the RV was having electrical and/or generator issues. It was... not comfortable.
The parts I worked on where the decorative frames in the living room and bedroom, curtains for every window, a headboard for the bed, painting various areas, and adding faux rivet panels to all the cabinet and drawers.
There were existing frames that needed to be removed, and then replaced with new ones that had rounded edges and hexagon pieces added to them meant to look like large bolts. The hexagons were all hand painted (70 of them). Getting the spacing figured out for the hexagons was really difficult. The boards for the wood were coated in black vinyl.
The curtains were all made from scratch. The client wanted them to roll up instead of opening from the middle. The fabric was actually meant for making furniture. Wood dowels, leather, brass hardware. Almost every window in the RV was a different size, so everything had to be manually measured and cut. There was no, make it one time, and then just repeat with the same template. My sewing skilled are definitely better now.
The headboard was all done with a handheld jigsaw and files/rasps. No CNC or laser cutting. The headboard was later upholstered by a different artist.
The faux rivet panels were really difficult. The material came in 8x4 foot sheets. There were 40 cabinet and drawers total that needed the recessed areas in them to be filled with the rivet material. The client wanted no more than a 1/16th gap around them and the cabinet frames. Most of them different sizes. Same as with the windows, there was no easy rinse and repeat with making these.

2 months of hard work. I'm really pleased with the results.
